Tanzania Wrap-up

September 23, 2010

In September 2010 I stood above the clouds on Africa’s tallest mountain. Although I didn’t make it to Uhuru peak I had an amazing experience. I challenged my physical strength and willpower in a different way than what I experience during endurance running.

The following are my journal entries for my Kilimanjaro journey on the Lemosho Route:

  1. The Plan
  2. Kilimanjaro: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa
  3. Kilimanjaro: Mti Mkubwa to Shira One Camp
  4. Kilimanjaro: Shira One Camp to Shira Two Camp
  5. Kilimanjaro: Shira Two Camp to Barranco Hut
  6. Kilimanjaro: Barranco Hut to Barafu Camp
  7. Kilimanjaro: Barafu towards summit, then down to the gate
  8. Top 5 Tips for Climbing Kilimanjaro
  9. Take That Kili!

We rounded out the trip by taking a seven-day safari in a variety of national parks. It’s one thing to see footage of the animals in Tanzania’s parks but it’s another thing to see them in person. By the end of our trip we were privileged to see four or the Big 5.

The following is the journal entries as we travelled along Tanzania’s northern circuit:

  1. Safari: Arusha National Park
  2. Safari: Tarangire National Park
  3. Safari: Lake Manyara National Park
  4. Safari: Serengeti National Park
  5. Safari: Ngorogoro Conservation Area
